Terms and Conditions

1.Agreement to these terms

These terms and conditions ("terms") govern your access to and use of MaritimeMentor, including the website, chat interface, and any associated features (the "service"). By accessing or using the service, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree with them, you must not access or use the service.

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2.The service

MaritimeMentor is an AI-powered assistant that provides information on maritime subjects, including navigation rules, buoyage, watchkeeping standards, and conventions such as COLREGs, SOLAS, STCW, and MARPOL.

The service is currently offered as a public preview. Features may be added, changed, or removed, and availability is not guaranteed. Free and paid plans may be introduced; any paid plan will be described on the pricing page before you are charged.

3.Not a substitute for official publications or professional judgement

MaritimeMentor provides informational content only. Answers generated by the service may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect.

Nothing provided by the service constitutes navigational, legal, safety, or professional advice. The service does not replace the officer of the watch, the master, official publications, flag state guidance, or company procedures.

You must verify any information obtained through the service against the applicable official publications and regulations before relying on it for any operational decision. You remain solely responsible for decisions made and actions taken based on information from the service.

4.Your account

Some features may require an account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating an account, to keep your credentials secure, and to notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you use the service on behalf of an employer or other organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

5.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable regulation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts, or related systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service, including attempting to circumvent usage limits or rate controls
  • Scrape, resell, or redistribute the service's output as a competing product or dataset
  • Submit content that is abusive, harassing, or that infringes the rights of others

6.Content and intellectual property

The service, including its design, text, graphics, and underlying software, is owned by MaritimeMentor and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not grant you any right to the service other than to use it as intended.

You retain ownership of the questions and content you submit ("your content"). By submitting content, you grant us the limited right to process it solely to operate and improve the service, including transmitting it to third-party AI providers to generate responses. We do not use your content to train AI models.

7.Third-party AI services

Responses are generated with the assistance of third-party AI providers. We do not control the outputs of these providers and make no guarantee as to the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of generated content. Any reliance you place on such content is strictly at your own risk.

8.Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available but provide it "as is" and "as available". We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, including during the preview period. Where practical, we will give notice of material changes.

9.Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MaritimeMentor and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights, where applicable.

11.Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes arising from or connected to them shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
